  19. Submission Tracking System (STS) Version 2.4 is a Windows based application designed to track your submissions to publishers.

  21. STS is easy to use, mouse driven, a powerful relational database
  22. that will track all aspects of a submission: from the article,
  23. and photographs associated with an article to the publisher where
  24. the submission is sent.  The following are some of the features:

  26. STS maintains separate Manuscript, Publisher, Photograph and
  27. Submission Databases.  Is capable of multiple contacts,
  28. addresses, and phone numbers for each publisher.

  30. STS provides a current list of submission at a click of a button.
  31. Version 2.4 provides many ways to search for publishers,
  32. manuscripts, photographs and outstanding submissions.

  34. STS tracks article, publisher, and submission histories.  Version
  35. 2.1 will automatically add history records when a submission is
  36. created or returned.

  39. photograph, publisher, or submission.  These reports may be

  80. The Submission Tracking System (STS) is designed for writer -
  81. photographer to track submissions. STS will track all
  82. specifications pertaining to a submission, from name of the
  83. manuscript, to photographs associated with an manuscript through
  84. the publisher where the submission was sent..

  86. Written for the window's environment, STS is capable of tracking
  87. manuscript, photograph, publisher and submission history as well
  88. as multiple names, addresses, and phone numbers of publishers.
  89. STS provides reports to show lists of available manuscripts,
  90. photographs, and submissions at publishers.  All details about a
  91. manuscript, photograph, publisher and submission may be printed
  92. or reviewed on screen for instant reference.

  94. The you are installing is a full functioning version of the
  95. application.  This means all the major aspects of the application
  96. work as expected.  You will be able to add a manuscripts,
  97. photographs, and publishers.  You will also be able to create
  98. submissions, but STS Version 2.4 is Date-limited.  You have 30
  99. days from the date of installation to try the product.

  118. Getting Started: Installation 
  119. This section describes how to how to download and install STS. 
  120. As with most Windows software, installing STS is easy. You can
  121. expect to be up and running in about half an hour. 
  122.  
  123. Downloading the Software 
  124.  
  125. 1. Create a directory called TEMP from the root directory. 
  126.  
  127. 2. Download (or copy) the file STS.EXE into the directory called
  128. TEMP 
  129.  
  130. 3. Using File Manager, unpack the file by double clicking on
  131. STS.EXE. 
  132.   
  133. Running the STS Setup program 
  134.  
  135. 1. From the Windows Program Manager, choose File, Run. The Run
  136. dialog box appears.  
  137.  
  138. 2. Enter the name of the program to run, in this case
  139. "C:\TEMP\SETUP" and the select "OK".   
  140.  
  141. Follow the screen instructions from this point. 
  142.  
  143. The next display will ask what directory the STS application is
  144. to be located within on your computer system.  The default
  145. directory is STS.  It is STRONGLY suggested that you leave STS as
  146. the default directory since the application looks for files in
  147. that directory.  Click on OK button to continue the install.  
  148.  
  149. To start the process of installing the STS software, click on the
  150. computer icon. 
  151.  
  152. The next display, allows you to select which windows program
  153. group the STS application icons will reside.  The default is to
  154. create a specific program group called Submission Tracking
  155. System.   If this is to be the case, click on the Continue
  156. command button.  Otherwise, make the appropriate selection. 
  157.  
  158. The setup program will begin to install the files for the
  159. application.   
  160.  
  161. When the install process is complete, because changes have been
  162. made to some of your Windows program files, when you click on the
  163. Continue command button, Windows will be restarted. 
  164.  
  165. Once Windows in restarted, if you selected the create a new
  166. Program Group when installing your STS application, the new
  167. program group will appear and you will be ready to use the
  168. application.

  170. Please Note: After you completed the installation of STS, you can
  171. remove all the files that were created in the TEMP directory.

  173. Icons in Submission Tracking Program Group 
  174. STS comes with three icons: Submission Tracking System, Fix
  175. Database and STS Notes.  The following sections describes each
  176. icon.

  178. Submission Tracking System Icon 
  179. This icon starts the Submission Tracking System application.  To
  180. start the application, move the mouse arrow to this icon and
  181. click twice. 
  182.  
  183. Fix Database Icon 
  184. This icon is used to start the application to repair, compact and
  185. compress the STS database.  Periodically, it is a good idea to
  186. select this icon and repair, compact and compress the program and
  187. data databases.   When using the Fix Database application, enter
  188. the location of the STS database files.  The Program file is
  189. called STS.MDB.  The Data file is called STSDATA.MDB.  If STS is
  190. the directory, type the following command:  C:\STS\STSDATA.MDB to
  191. repair and compress the data database.

  193. STS Notes Icon 
  194. This icon displays the Getting Started manual along with the
  195. latest information about the STS application. 
  196.  
  197. Once you have started the program, please consult the Getting
  198. Started manual for how to use STS.  You will find a basic version
  199. of that manual with this version of the software.  Use Notepad or
  200. any word processor to review STSREAD.TXT.  In addition, to
  201. understand in detail each field on each form, while in the
  202. application press F1 for on-line help text.
